This is Munich and Detour in Munich
This classic illustrated guide to the city of Munich as seen through the eyes of globally acclaimed illustrator, Miroslav Šašek, is complimented by a booklet called Detour in Munich by young contemporary artist Magdalena Rutová. Šašek, whose heart belonged to Paris, discovered a second home in Munich where found friends, love, and family who shared his native tongue. From 1951 to 1957, he was part of the Radio Free Europe editorial team, infamously spreading "the mores of Parisian cabarets" through its broadcasts, according to Czechoslovak Radio at the time. His affection for Munich, a place he returned to throughout his life, is evident as he fondly portrays the city’s stout men in lederhosen, its cozy beer halls, its rather clumsy architecture, and even the föhn—a troublesome wind known to vex the locals with headaches. Included in the book is a booklet by Magdalena Rutová, recounting her own journey to Munich to visit her aunt.
