Baobab is celebrating 15 years and in honor of that, we're thrilled to announce we’ve published Baoplanet. Come fly with us! No need to travel thousands of light years; our flying machines will whisk you off to Baoplanet where adventure is just a page turn away. Remember Baoplan? That was our name for a special two-page children's magazine that Baobab occasionally released. Each issue featured a unique flying machine by different authors, and graphic artist Luboš Drtinwas so enchanted by these whimsical flying contraptions that he decided to create a whole book about them. Released in celebration of Baobab's fifteenth anniversary, this book is an ode to joyous flights, amusing falls, and the sound of whooshing from page to page. Here, mustaches are not just facial hair but have become a delicacy, and reading can be an adventure from front to back, or back to front, whatever you wish. It's a book you can color in, a playful tribute to the spirit of the sixties, Dadaist whimsy, and Alois Mikulec. Its unique structure blends poetry with mischievous play, weaving together diverse genres in a way that teaches counting (or reimagines it entirely) and shows how text itself can become an illustration. Most of all, it's a book brimming with infectious cheer. "I've always had a soft spot for Baoplan, a magazine that I still miss dearly. It was an honor to draw a series of flying creatures for it, some of which have been gathering dust in a box for years. This book is a nostalgic compilation of those creations, a gentle nudge to the Horváth publishers about the 'market gap' they left open—a gap, it seems, only they can fill. I'm hopeful that Baoplan will once again take to the skies and soar again as it once did," says Luboš.
