Somewhere else…
Seven stories by seven contemporary Czech authors delve into the lives of travelers, homeless wanderers, refugees, and those grappling with a lost past and an uncertain future. These tales unfold amidst the complexities of language, on the fringes of society, within bustling cityscapes, and across the fabric of time. Written for older children, adolescents, and adults, this collection, brought to life with illustrations by Jakub Plachý, invites readers to contemplate the experience of being a stranger in a new land. Published in collaboration with Meta, an organization dedicated to the integration of young foreigners into Czech society, we hope these stories can spark conversations among literature, civics, and history educators and help illuminate what it means to find yourself a foreigner in a foreign land. Featuring works by Olga Černá, Edgar Dutka, Magdalena Platzová, Jan Čumlivski, Markéta Pilátová, Chaim Cigan, and Marek Šindelka.
