Her works are distinctly graphic, with an emphasis on the effect of colour and simple shapes. Toys, books, notebooks and clothes, Aino-Maija Metsola's homely and subtly melancholic illustrations are everywhere. Her interest in pattern, decor and surface rhythm is also evident in her work for the textile company Marimekko.
