We founded the Baobab publishing company for alternative children's illustrated books in 2000. We focus on publishing original texts and compelling translations. We cooperate with the upcoming generation of artists.

"The Baobab is an enormous tree, as you all probably know. It’s so huge that you could fit the contents of an entire household inside it. They also say it's a magical tree. That is, pollen from it's gigantic flowers is definitely collected by bats, now that's an unusual thought, isn't it? And then there's Baobab Publishing, which, contrary to the African tree, is really tiny. It fits on one table. You don't believe me? There's a chair by the table. You can see an old stone wall in the garden through the window. And Daddy sits on the chair. First he draws pictures, or someone sends him some in an envelope, then he watches the computer and puts everything together. (At least that's what he says he’s doing.) I can't tell you how he does it yet, I'm still too small. Sometimes Mummy and him sit concocting something. And then she sits there and Daddy watches us, so we behave ourselves. And Mummy sits and watches that stone wall outside. That's when we're not allowed to bother her. But of course not bothering her isn’t easy when Sasha, Sultana and I are always fighting. Sometimes screaming is important when you're fighting… But the truth is, if we're well behaved, in a few days they bring us books from the printers. They smell so nice, full of pictures and we look at them and read them over and over and over again…
