Jiří Dvořák, Juraj Horváth / Hens & Television

Jiří Dvořák’s collection of fables (as well as non-fables) reflects not only the classic Fontainesque story-telling tradition but a modern interpretation of this brief but realistic condensed literary form. And thus one meets a snake devouring his tail because he is terribly hungry, or a peacock who becomes an absolutely ordinary but pretty stuck-up turkey because butterflies fly away from its tail, as well as hens that spend all their grain money on a TV but and once they have it, they are only interested in feed, or a centipede so vain that she prefers to tear off all of her legs rather than wear inelegant shoes.
Dvořák not only plays with the characteristic features of the human beings, but also with the meaning of words and statements that so often lose their true sense in today's world.
