Marek Toman / The Cross-Eyed Jim Confectionery

Can desperados from the Wild West amend the lessons of classic literature? Is it possible to comprehend one’s own life while reading Moby Dick, The Count of Monte Cristo, Romeo and Juliet, Winnetou and May? For Boženka, a Czech librarian, the reading workshops she conducts at the Cross-Eyed Jim Confectionery are a labor of love. That is of course, until Dante Skunk Shakespeare, the literary outlaw, saunters into the sleepy town...  Who will win the ensuing fierce, intellectual battle is unclear, just as it is unclear whose side the rough-looking band of cowboys and convicts will join. Marek Toman’s light parody in many respects builds on the famous Lemonade Joe and is a winsome contribution for every passionate reader and the perfect tale for grownups seeking to lead children, pupils or students to literature...
